This is a virtual Learning Group facilitated by two white people to discuss how race, racism and whiteness impact our behaviour and those around us.

~

Our mission is to enable ourselves and others to take effective action in our everyday lives to call out and combat racism.

We do this in our groups by focussing on the somatic experience of addressing racism. Please look at our Group Guidelines to get a sense of the space that we aim to create.

Each session is facilitated to create space for honest, critical and reflective conversations about race, prompted by literature, podcasts and visual materials. We aim to achieve this in the Learning Group by:

  • Encouraging reflection on the topic in relation to our personal experiences, as opposed to intellectualising it

  • Co-creating a safe space for reflection and honesty, where we can talk about shame and other uncomfortable feelings

  • Acknowledging the power of race and racism in our everyday lives and using tools to keep ourselves accountable

Since trialing this group from April-July 2020, we decided to take a break to do some research on how we can best respond to the needs of regular participators. We have since focussed mainly on provided closed cohort groups, with the occasional ‘taster’ open session where any one can drop in.
